Abstract

The occurrence and distribution of gallium in sandstone-type uranium deposits remain poorly understood.This study presents a systematic investigation of gallium in uranium ores from the Bajiazi deposit,combining whole-rock geochemistry,petrographic analysis,scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and in-situ microanalysis techniques.Our findings show that gallium concentrations in most uranium ores from Bajiazi meet the minimum grade required for co-production.The gallium-enriched ores are characterized by high clay content and extensive kaolinization.At the microscopic level,gallium demonstrates a strong geochemical affinity to aluminum,and no independent gallium minerals were identified after detecting numerous gallium-rich zones within clay minerals.These observations indicate that gallium in Bajiazi deposit exists primarily in an adsorbed form,with kaolinite serving as the principal host.This work has established a robust approach for determining gallium occurrence in sandstone-type uranium deposits and will support the potential strategies for recovering gallium as a by-product of uranium mining.
