Abstract

Green innovation cooperation is an important pathway for cultivating green new productive forces and promoting green econom-ic development.This study utilized joint authorization data for green invention patents among Chinese cities from 2000 to 2022 to construct an urban green innovation cooperation network.Based on network visualization methods and employing a rolling window approach with an-nual window periods,this study comprehensively applied a general temporal model and a separable temporal exponential random graph model to examine the urban green innovation cooperation network,accurately identifying the structural characteristics and formation mech-anisms of the network across different time periods.The findings revealed that:① The Chinese urban green innovation cooperation net-work evolved from non-existence to existence,and from sparsity to density,with the number of cities involved in green innovation coopera-tion continuously increasing and the overall connectivity and density of the network significantly improving.The network structure exhibit-ed characteristics of a"small-world"and"core-periphery"power-law distribution.② Using the general temporal model,the study found that the power-law distribution of the Chinese urban green innovation cooperation network was influenced by both preferential attachment and node fitness mechanisms,with significant differences in node fitness among different cities.③ Further employing the separable tempo-ral exponential random graph model,the study found that the Chinese urban green innovation cooperation network was a result of the com-bined effects of intrinsic network attributes,node characteristics,and external factors,with varying core driving factors at different stages.Among these,network transitivity,node fitness,and the geographical distance between cities consistently showed significant influence coef-ficients,serving as the main factors affecting the formation of the city-level green innovation cooperation network.The homogeneity effects of economic level,and R&D innovation intensity between cities were not significant,while the preferential attachment effect and the differ-ences in industrial structure and pollution level between cities showed insignificant influence in the early stages but gradually strengthened over time.To comprehensively promote the construction of the Chinese urban green innovation cooperation network and achieve balanced regional economic development,the study recommends further cultivating urban green innovation hubs in cities to leverage the preferential attachment effect;strengthening green innovation cooperation among urban agglomerations to enhance the transitivity effect;and improving the economic strength of node cities to narrow the gap in node fitness.
