Abstract
The military merit ranking system originated in the Spring and Autumn period and matured in the Warring States and Qin and Han dynasties.Those who have made military merits,regardless of origin or class,can obtain titles and rewards as long as they have military merits.The Han Dynasty inherited the Qin system and continued to use the military merit ranking system.The military merit ranking system has undergone four major historical changes from its origin,development to decline,and has lasted for thousands of years.In the twentieth year of Jian'an Era,the"official title"system(9 to 20 levels)in the military merit ranking system was reformed and even abolished by Cao Cao,but the"8-level of commoner title"system was still retained and used until the first year of the Xingyuan era under Emperor Dezong of Tang.The military merit ranking system represented a significant reform in ancient personnel institutions by breaking with the tradition of conferring titles based solely on lineage and kinship ties.关键词
