Effects of different light treatments on the circadian activity rhythm and carbohydrate metabolism of litchi fruit borer Conopomorpha sinensis adults

Abstract
To investigate the circadian rhythm of litchi fruit borer Conopomorpha sinensis adults and the effects of nighttime light on their circadian rhythms and carbohydrate metabolism,we monitored locomotor activity,conducted physiological assays,and performed mating experiments under seven dif-ferent light treatments.The results showed that under a 14 L∶10 D photoperiod,both male and female adults exhibited a unimodal nocturnal activity pattern,characterized by high activity immediately after the onset of darkness and a rapid decline after the onset of light.Exposure to light during the dark phase significantly disrupted circadian rhythms,as reflected by reduced average activity frequency and rhythm index,and an increased proportion of arrhythmic individuals.Under continuous 24-h light,circa-dian rhythmicity nearly disappeared,accompanied by a significant reduction in mating rate.Regarding carbohydrate metabolism,continuous light exposure decreased the activities of trehalose-6-phosphate synthase(TPS)and trehalose transporter(TreTP)at 4 h and 8 h into the dark phase,reduced trehalose and total carbohydrate contents,and led to abnormal glucose accumulation.These findings suggest that nighttime light disrupts the spontaneous activity rhythm of C.sinensis adults,and continuous nighttime light not only abolishes circadian rhythms but also inhibits the accumulation of trehalose,resulting in insufficient energy supply during the dark period and consequently impairing mating behavior.关键词
