Abstract
Vocational undergraduate education is a crucial component in establishing the vocational education system with Chinese characteristics and serves as the backbone for cultivating high-level technical and skilled talents.It opens up growth pathways for technical and skilled personnel,bridges the gap between secondary and higher vocational education and industrial demands,fills the shortage of high-end skilled talents,provides talents support for industrial upgrading and socioeconomic development,and facilitates the deep integration of the education chain,talent chain,and industrial chain.By employing a historical analysis approach,this study reviews the policy evolution of China's vocational undergraduate education over the 40 years since the promulgation of the Decision of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the Reform of the Education System in 1985.It divides this evolution into four stages:initiation,exploration,refinement,and systematization.Additionally,it summarizes the development patterns of vocational education over the past four decades and conducts an in-depth analysis from the perspectives of demand orientation,educational entities,development pathways,and operational mechanisms.This analysis addresses why the nation needs to develop vocational undergraduate education,which entities it relies on for such development,the pathways through which it advances,and the type of vocational undergraduate education it aims to cultivate.Based on this foundation,the future of vocational undergraduate education should be guided by strategic direction to reinforce its commitment to its educational type;leverage institutional iteration to drive a"quality leap"in vocational undergraduate education;establish its"type"as a"hardcore"element within the organizational landscape;and embark on a renewed reform journey to comprehensively strengthen the exploration of innovative mechanisms for talent cultivation.关键词
