摘要

Abstract

As a prevalent,age-related ocular surface condition with a globally increasing prevalence,dry eye(DE)severely impacts daily work and quality of life.The pathogenesis of DE is complex,and current research primarily focuses on the disruption of the ocular surface microenvironment.Risk factors include apoptosis of corneal and conjunctival epithelial cells,inflammatory responses,and dysfunction of the lacrimal and meibomian glands.This article systematically reviews and summarizes relevant literature on the intervention of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)in DE-related signaling pathways for treatment.It is found that TCM is widely applied in treating DE,characterized by multi-pathway,multi-target,multi-level regulation,high safety,and minimal side effects.TCM can modulate inflammation-related signaling pathways such as Toll-like receptors(TLR),nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB),NOD-like receptor protein 3/Caspase-1(NLRP3/Caspase-1),mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular regulated protein kinase(MAPK/ERK),phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase/protein kinase(PI3K/Akt),adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase/silent information regulator 1(AMPK/Sirt1),and mucin 1-human epidermal growth factor receptor 1(MUC1-ErbB1),thereby improving DE symptoms and alleviating disease progression.
