Abstract

Geological work plays a forward-looking,strategic,and fundamental role in urban development,providing essential scientific basis and critical support for the sustainable,high-quality growth of cities.This article reviews the evolution of Beijing's urban geological work,analyzes existing problems,and outlines future directions.Results show that since the founding of the People's Republic of China,Beijing's urban geological activities have consistently focused on the city's developmental needs and problem-solving.With the development of the city,this work has evolved from the resource guarantee phase to the high-quality development phase.At the current stage,a development strategy has been established,the underlying work philosophy refined,theoretical research advanced,and extensive practices undertaken across fields including basic geology,environmental geology,and mineral geology.However,challenges persist,such as incomplete legal frameworks,regulations,and standards;inadequate expression,transformation,and application of geological findings;and insufficient data mining and utilization.In the future,urban geological work will align with national and municipal strategic deployments,focus on ecological protection and safety assurance to further emphasize its pioneering and strategic nature,and highlight its fundamental and public-welfare characteristics.Future efforts will prioritize improving urban geology standards and reinforcing legislation,applying new technologies,and innovating the expression of geological achievements.
