Correlation between hs-CRP/HDL-C and asthma control level in adults with bronchial asthma

Abstract
Objective To investigate the correlation between the ratio of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein to high-density lip-oprotein cholesterol(hs-CRP/HDL-C)and asthma control level in adults with bronchial asthma.Methods One hundred thirty-six patients with chronic stable bronchial asthma seen at our hospital from June 2022 to June 2024 were enrolled.Asthma control was assessed by the Asthma Control Test(ACT)and patients were allocated to a well-controlled group(n=94)and a poorly controlled group(n=42).Baseline data were collected for all patients and the hs-CRP/HDL-C ratio was calculated.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves were plotted to evaluate the predictive value of hs-CRP,HDL-C,and hs-CRP/HDL-C for asthma control level.Multivariate stepwise logistic regression was used to identify factors influencing asthma control in adults.Results Patients in the poorly controlled group had significantly higher hs-CRP and hs-CRP/HDL-C and lower HDL-C than those in the well-controlled group(P＜0.05).ROC analysis showed the areas un-der the curve(AUCs)for predicting asthma control were 0.847(95％CI:0.802-0.897)for hs-CRP,0.721(95％CI:0.676-0.766)for HDL-C,and 0.902(95％CI:0.857-0.952)for hs-CRP/HDL-C.The hs-CRP/HDL-C ratio had a specificity of 86.24％and a sensitivity of 85.69％for predicting asthma control.Furthermore,hs-CRP and hs-CRP/HDL-C were negatively correlated with ACT score,while HDL-C was positively correlated with ACT score(r=-0.601,—0.649,and 0.550,respectively;P＜0.05).Univariate analysis showed that the poorly controlled group had significantly higher propor-tions of BMI≥28 kg/m2,disease onset in cold seasons,and smoking history(P＜0.05).Multivariate stepwise logistic re-gression identified BMI ≥28 kg/m2(OR=1.980,95％CI:1.169-3.354),smoking history(OR=2.106,95％CI:1.270-3.493)and hs-CRP/HDL-C ≥5.59(OR=3.093,95％CI:1.800-5.312)as risk factors for poor asthma control in adults(P＜0.05).Conclusion The hs-CRP/HDL-C ratio is closely associated with asthma control level in adults with bronchial asthma and may serve as a potential biomarker for assessing asthma control.关键词
