Abstract

Objective To explore the effectiveness of PACACR six-step teaching integrated scenario-based teaching method in improving neonatal resuscitation training outcomes among midwifery students.Methods According to the principle of cluster sampling,105 second-year students majoring in midwifery from Jiangsu Health Vocational College from two classes were enrolled.One class(n=50)received traditional teaching(control group),and the other class(n=55)received the six-step teaching process of PACACR integrated with scenario-based teaching(experimental group).After course completion,theoretical knowledge,seven technical skills of neonatal resuscitation and five behavioral skills were compared between the two groups.Results There was no statistically significant difference in neonatal resuscitation knowledge scores between the two groups(P>0.05).The experimental group achieved higher total scores in neonatal resuscitation technical skills than the control group(P<0.05).Among the seven technical skills,four items(initial resuscitation,positive pressure ventilation,tracheal intubation,drug management)and five behavioral skills(situational awareness,assessment and decision making,effective communication,teamwork,leadership)were significantly better in the experimental group than those in the control group(all P<0.05),while the remaining three—heart rate assessment,chest compressions,and umbilical vein catheterization—showed no significant differences(all P>0.05).Conclusions The PACACR six-step teaching process integrated with scenario-based simulation teaching method has obvious advantages,which can improve the technical skills and behavioral skills of nursing students in newborn resuscitation.
