Abstract

To evaluate the structural performance of bridge piers during the construction phase and ensure their long-term service safety,a quantitative evaluation method for the bridge piers stiffness based on environmental excitation modal testing was proposed.Taking a certain frame-type high pier as the object,longitudinal and transverse modal tests on the bridge pier under environmental excitation were carried out.Firstly,the vibration response data of the bridge piers were processed by applying the stochastic subspace identification(SSI)and enhanced frequency domain decomposition(EFDD)methods to identify and extract the key modal parameters of the bridge piers.Then,based on the design bending moment at the bottom of the pier and the height of the pier,the horizontal design load acting on the bridge pier was calculated,and combined with the identified modal vibration mode to predict the modal displacement responses of the bridge pier in the longitudinal and transverse directions under the action of this design load.Finally,the measured modal stiffness of the bridge pier was calculated by using the measured modal parameters and the predicted modal displacement of the design load.The theoretical design stiffness was calculated by referring to the design theory or the code.By comparing and analyzing the stiffness ratio of the two,the actual structural performance state of the bridge pier was evaluated.The results show that the environmental excitation modal test can effectively identify the bidirectional dynamic characteristics of bridge piers.Only the first two longitudinal and transverse frequencies and vibration modes are needed to accurately predict the modal displacement through the modal flexibility matrix,meeting the engineering accuracy requirements.The predicted longitudinal and transverse modal stiffness values are both greater than the theoretical values(stiffness ratio>1.0),verifying that the bridge piers during the construction period meets the design stiffness requirements.The proposed method effectively correlates the dynamic and static characteristics of bridge piers through modal stiffness,providing a practical technical approach for the rapid and accurate evaluation of bridge piers stiffness during the construction period,and has significant engineering application value.
