Abstract

Rivers are important channels connecting the major carbon pools of land and ocean,playing a cruci-al role in the global carbon cycle.As the largest river in China,the Yangtze River plays an important role in the river carbon cycle.Since the construction and operation of the Three Gorges dam,significant changes have occurred in the flow-sedimentary regimes at the Yichang station,which is downstream adjacent to the dam.However,there is still a lack of systematic research on the changes in pCO2 in waters downstream of the Three Gorges dam.Therefore,taking the Yichang Hydrological station as the study site and based on the hydrochem-ical data at this station before and after the construction of the Three Gorges dam(1958-2018),the formula for calculating alkalinity according to the relation of cross-sectional discharge and dissolved inorganic carbon has been constructed,and the temporal changes in pCO2 at Yichang station before and after the construction of the Three Gorges dam are calculated and analyzed,and the main influencing factors that caused the changes and their temporal variations have been explored.The results provide a scientific basis for evaluating the im-pact of dam construction on downstream carbon cycle and environmental changes.
