Sedimentary model,reservoir characteristics and main controlling factors of major carbonate rocks in the Middle East region

Abstract
The Middle East holds nearly half of the world's recoverable hydrocarbon reserves,predominantly hosted in carbon-ate reservoirs characterized by multi-scale heterogeneity.Integrating multi-domain static and dynamic data from key oilfields in the United Arab Emirates,Oman,Iraq,and Iran,this study proposes a unified classification framework encompassing five representative carbonate sedimentary models:ramp,rimmed platform,epicontinental sea ramp,evaporative platform,and submerged platform.These systems exhibit dynamic transitions governed by sea-level fluctuations and tectonic activities.Ramps and epeiric ramps initially develop through aggradation.Within the inner ramp,high-energy environments promote the formation of biological reefs or shoals,generating sedimentary highs.During transgressive phases,reef-shoal complexed ex-pand,eventually evolving into rimmed platforms.Evaporative platforms form during sea-level fall or tectonic uplift,whereas subsequent transgression or subsidence may transform them into submerged platforms.In the ramp model,the main reservoirs are inner-ramp shoals;in the rimmed platform,they are platform-margin reef-shoal complexes.Tidal channel facies within lagoons exhibit high permeability but strong heterogeneity.The epicontinental ramp model develops typical spherulitic granu-lar limestone with excellent reservoir continuity,large scale,and weak heterogeneity.The evaporative platform shows intense evaporation in the supratidal zone,where dolomite,gypsum,and limestone coexist to form complex reservoir architectures.The submerged platform mainly develops planktonic foraminiferal wackestones characterized by intrafossil porosity,poor con-nectivity,the typical features of high porosity,low permeability,and weak heterogeneity.关键词
