Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the effects of water and fertilizer management on photosynthetic characteristics,yield,and nitrogen use efficiency in double-cropping rice under ridge-furrow cultivation.Using Zhuliangyou 819(early rice)and Taiyou 390(late rice)as test materials,a field experiment on water and fertilizer regulation was conducted from March to October in 2024 in Meihua Village,Hengyang City,Hunan Province.A split-plot design was adopted,with the main plots consisting of two water management methods,which were conventional irrigation(C)and water-saving irrigation(J),and the subplots comprising four nitrogen levels which were 0(N0),120(N1),150(N2),and 180(N3)kg/hm2).The results showed that the leaf area index(LAI)of the JN3 treatment was significantly higher than that of other treatments at various growth stages of both early and late rice.LAI exhibited a highly significant positive correlation with yield.The JN3 treatment significantly increased rice yield by enhancing the number of effective panicles and grains per panicle,with yields of early and late rice increasing by 73.47%and 49.80%,respectively,compared to the CN0 treatment.The total nitrogen accumulation across both seasons was highest in the JN3 treatment,showing increases of 1.24 and 1.26 times compared to the CN0 treatment.The nitrogen partial factor productivity was highest in the JN1 treatment for both seasons,increasing by 39.62%and 42.44%,respectively,compared to the CN3 treatment.For early rice,the nitrogen agronomic efficiency was highest in the CN1 treatment,which was 22.31%higher than that of the CN3 treatment,while for late rice,it was highest in the JN3 treatment,with a 15.55%increase over the CN3 treatment.The nitrogen uptake efficiency was highest in the JN3 treatment for both seasons,increasing by 10.42%and 17.82%,respectively,compared to the CN1 treatment.In conclusion,the optimal treatment combination in this experiment was JN3,water-saving irrigation with a nitrogen application rate of 180 kg/hm2,which improved the photosynthetic characteristics of rice and effectively enhanced both yield and nitrogen use efficiency.
