Abstract

To investigate the effects of combined application of paclobutrazol and chlormequat on rice lodging resistance,yield,and quality,the field trials were conducted with different concentration combinations of paclobutrazol(P1:300 mg/L;P2:200 mg/L,)and chlormequat(C1:500 mg/L;C2:300 mg/L,)in combinations(P1C1,P1C2,P2C2),which were applied as foliar sprays before the jointing stage,with water as the control.The results showed that after spraying paclobutrazol or chlormequat and their combinations,the lengths of the second and third basal internodes of rice decreased by 7.66%-30.02%and 5.22%-33.81%,respectively,compared to the control.Stem width increased by 4.73%-15.84%and 0.80%-14.06%,respectively,and stembreaking resistance improved by 25.62%-70.29%and 18.14%-126.61%,respectively.The combined treatments had a greater impact on stem morphology than single-agent treatments,withthetrend P2C1>P2C2>P1C2.Yield increased by 4.80%-11.42%compared to the control,with panicle numbers rising by 3.62%-8.65%and spikelet numbers per panicle increasing by 3.08%-8.42%.The combined treatments outperformed single-agent treatments in yield enhancement,with P2C2 showing the highest increase.Single-agent treatments of paclobutrazol or chlormequat had minimal effects on rice milling,appearance,and taste quality indicators.In contrast,the combined treatments increased milled rice rate and head rice rate by 3.71-3.92 percentage points and 3.63-4.45 percentage points,respectively,while reducing chalky grain rate and chalkiness by 3.51-5.56 percentage points and 2.67-4.60 percentage points,respectively.Taste values increased by 3.14%-4.91%,with the P2C2 treatment showing the greatest improvement in rice quality.Comprehensive analysis of yield,quality,and lodging resistance indicated that under the experimental conditions,the combined application of 200 mg/L paclobutrazol and 300 mg/L chlormequat before the jointing stage achieved the best synergistic improvement in rice yield,quality,and lodging resistance.
