Abstract
Objective:To measure the adult parotid gland fat fraction using 3.0 T MRI IDEAL-IQ technology and to evaluate its correlation with age.Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on 120 patients who underwent routine head and neck MRI examinations.The participants were divided into four age groups,the youth group(aged 18 to 44),middle-aged group(aged 45 to 59),younger elderly group(aged 60 to 74),and elderly group(aged 75 to 89),with 30 cases in each group.The fat fraction(FF)values of bilateral parotid glands were measured,and the differences in FF values between the left and right parotid gland were compared in each group.The differences in FF value and BMI among the four groups were compared too.Correlation analysis was conducted between FF value and age,BMI.Results:There was no statistically significant difference in the FF values between the left and right parotid glands(all P>0.05).However,significant intergroup differences were found in the average FF values of the bilateral parotid glands among the four groups(all P<0.001).There were no significant intergroup differences in BMI among the four group(all P>0.05).The parotid gland FF values were positively correlated with age(r=0.443,P<0.001).Conclusions:The FF values of bilateral parotid glands in adults have no differences and are correlated with age.Therefore,age-related changes in parotid fat content should be carefully considered when evaluating patients with Sjögren's syndrome.关键词
