Mechanisms for Building Peer-to-Peer Mutual Assistance Among Gig Workers in Digital Labor Platform Stations

Abstract
The station is an institutional arrangement adopted by digital labor platforms to maintain labor order and enhance operational efficiency,and it significantly influences the formation of mutual assistance relationships among riders.The study employed an ordinary least squares regression model to conduct a baseline regression analysis of 1449 delivery riders'data and used the KHB method to test the mediating effects of competence perception and fairness perception.Additionally,matched data from 47 station managers and 879 riders were analyzed using a multilevel linear model to examine the moderating effect of station manager support.The findings indicate that station systems have a significant positive impact on the formation of mutual assistance relationships among riders.This effect is mediated by the enhancement of riders'competence perception and fairness perception,with the station manager support further strengthening this mechanism.In the operation of station systems,market logic and communal logic exert independent influences,while bureaucratic logic functions in conjunction with communal logic.The study suggests integrating multiple forces and resources to improve station construction and create more communication spaces for riders;selecting and cultivating station managers with both delivery experience and management skills to develop station culture;and incorporating station construction and rider satisfaction into the performance evaluation system for agents whilst strengthening negotiation and dialogue mechanisms between platforms and agent stations.关键词
