Numerical Simulation Model for Impulse Waves Generated by Landslides Based on High-Resolution CFD-DEM Fluid-Solid Coupling Algorithm

Abstract
[Objective]Landslide-generated impulse waves along reservoir banks pose a serious threat to reservoir safety.Ex-isting empirical formulas and traditional numerical models struggle to accurately capture the fluid-solid interaction effects dur-ing wave generation.This paper aims to establish a numerical model based on a high-resolution CFD-DEM fluid-solid coupling algorithm to precisely simulate the entire process of landslide-induced impulse waves.[Methods]The model employed Eule-rian-based Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)to simulate fluid motion and Lagrangian-based Discrete Element Method(DEM)to describe landslide movement.The Immersed Boundary Method(IBM)was used to handle moving boundaries and strong fluid-solid interactions,while the Conservative Level Set(CLS)method tracked free-surface evolution.High-resolution coupled solution between fluid and solid was achieved through staggered iterations.[Results](1)Validation via a two-parti-cle sedimentation case showed that the model accurately captured particle wake effects and the "drafting-kissing-tumbling"phenomenon,with results highly consistent with literature.(2)Simulation of a deformable submarine landslide demonstrated the model's ability to accurately reflect interactions between dense blocks and fluid,with free-surface evolution matching ex-perimental data.(3)In the practical case of Lituya Bay,the model successfully reproduced the wave generation,propaga-tion,and run-up process,with a computed maximum wave height of 146 m,deviating by only 2.7%from the measured value of 150 m.[Conclusion]The proposed high-resolution CFD-DEM coupling model effectively simulates complex fluid-solid coupling behavior in landslide-generated waves,significantly outperforming non-resolved methods reliant on empirical formu-las.It provides a reliable numerical tool for risk assessment of landslide-induced wave disasters in reservoir areas.关键词
