Hydrogen redistribution behavior in UZrHx reactors and its impact on reactor performance

Abstract
UZrHx(Uranium-hydrogen-zirconium)fuel is prone to hydrogen diffusion under temperature gradients,leading to hydrogen redistribution.This phenomenon causes localized changes in the material properties of the fuel,thereby affecting the reactivity of the reactor and the spatial distributions of power,temperature,and neutron flux density.In this study,a calculation model of hydrogen diffusion within fuel rods was established by using the finite difference method.This model was then coupled with the deterministic code NECP-SARAX.Using the coupled program,we investigated the impact of hydrogen redistribution on neutronics characteristics in liquid-metal-cooled UZrHx reactors.The results demonstrate that in UZrHx fuel,hydrogen migrates from high-temperature areas to low-temperature areas,thereby shifting the axial power distribution of the reactor core toward the side with higher hydro-gen concentration.This shift results in the flattening of the reactor core power,reducing the temperature in the cen-tral part of the reactor core.Simultaneously,it changes the spatial distribution of neutron values,introducing a net negative reactivity over the entire reactor core,triggering changes in the effective proliferation factor,and reducing the excess reactivity of the reactor core.关键词
