Abstract

Biodegradation of lignin is environment friendly yet less efficient.H.pluvialis(Haematococcus pluvialis)is capable of assimilating low molecular mass organic matters quickly for heterotrophic metabolism,but weak in degradation of macromolecular organic compounds,while Gordonia bacteria have a strong ability in degradation of these compounds and can synthesize extracelluar products enhancing plant growth.To promote lignin-degradation efficiency,Haematococcus pluvialis and bacterium TD18(Gordonia terra)were mix-cultivated in lignin-containing wastewater.The experimental results show that lignin at the low mass concentration of 300 mg/L and high mass concentration of 500 mg/L can be degraded completely by individual culture and mixed culture of H.pluvialis and bacterium TD18,respectively.Compared to the individual cultures,the degradation rate of lignin in mixed culture at the optimum inoculation ratio of 10∶4 increases by 3.49 and 1.02 times,while the biomass of H.pluvialis(0.765 g/L)and bacterium TD18(0.119 g/L)elevates by 57.73%and 801%,respectively.Hence mix-cultivation of H.pluvialis and bacterium TD18 represents an cost-effective and efficient way for degradation of lignin.
