The Effects of Different Radiation Sources on the Germination,Growth and Physiological Biochemistry of Oxytropis myriophylla

Abstract
To systematically evaluate the biological effects of different ionizing radiations on the Mongolian me-dicinal plant Oxytropis myriophylla(Pall.)DC.,dry seeds were subjected to gradient-dose irradiation with neutrons,γ-rays,and 12C6+ion beams.Seed germination,seedling growth,physiological-biochemical traits were subsequently assessed.Growth indices-including germination percentage,leaf number,lateral-root number,and root length-were recorded,together with chlorophyll concentration,malondialdehyde(MDA)concentration,peroxidase(POD)activity,and superoxide dismutase(SOD)activity.The results demonstrated that low-dose irradiation triggered oxidative stress and activated the antioxidant defense system,leading to a hormetic growth-promotion response,whereas high-dose irradiation markedly aggravated oxidative damage and suppressed normal seedling development.关键词
