Abstract

The demand for sustainable development in the traditional textile and apparel industry is growing in-creasingly urgent.The concept of sustainability in this sector is broad,involving various stakeholders and practices.There-fore,it is crucial that sustainability labels on textile and apparel products clearly and effectively communicate the princi-ples of sustainability.There are many existing sustainable development labels in the market.To systematically and compre-hensively analyze this issue,combined with the characteristics of the textile and apparel industry chain,the basic content of sustainable development in the textile and apparel industry,and consumer perception,a comparative analysis of existing common labels is proposed from three aspects:content,credibility,and usability of the labels.The analysis reveals that sus-tainability labels on textile and apparel products vary significantly in terms of content,credibility,and usability.The con-tent of these labels can be categorized into qualitative information reflecting sustainability initiatives and quantitative infor-mation reflecting environmental impact results.Different labels cover varying aspects of sustainability.Enhancing credibili-ty can be achieved through third-party certification,traceability technologies,and regulatory standards that control informa-tion access and processing.Comprehensively considering the simplicity and comprehensiveness of labels,adopting a rating system,and increasing consumer interaction design are all effective ways to enhance the usability of labels from the per-spective of consumer perception.It is recommended to systematically review sustainability labels for textile and apparel products to reduce confusion and improve the clarity and effectiveness of sustainability communication in three key areas.
