Abstract

The widespread siliceous rocks in the Middle Permian Maokou Formation,central Sichuan Basin,lead to the complexity of reservoir logging responses and the limited adaptability of traditional three-porosity logs to siliceous rock identification and quantitative calculation of reservoir property parameters.It is necessary to address these challenges to achieve the fine characterization of lithology profile and the accurate calculation of physical property parameters,thereby supporting the evaluation for hydrocarbon exploration.The qualitative logging identification chart and optimization-theory-based quantitative calculation methods for siliceous rocks are discussed,based on geological and logging response characteristic analyses.The results are obtained in three aspects.(i)The P-wave to S-wave velocity ratio(Vp/Vs)is an effective indicator for identifying quartz(silica).Its value is correlated to the silica content calculated from lithology scanning logs,with a correlation coefficient up to 0.87,enabling an improved calculation accuracy of mineral composition contents.(ii)Based on acoustic,neutron and density logging results,the Vp/Vs curve is incorporated into an optimization model with constraints to accurately determine the contents of various minerals such as quartz,dolomite,calcite,and mud,compensating the technical limitation due to the lack of lithology scanning logging data.(iii)Through the precise identification and parameter quantitative calculation for siliceous rocks,coupling with the electrical imaging logging data,effective reservoirs can be clarified,avoiding any misinterpretation for tight reservoirs with high sonic transit time,low density,medium-high resistivity but high silica content as effective ones,thereby guiding logging processing and interpretation.In conclusion,the optimization calculation method integrating Vp/Vs provides an available tool for qualitative identification and quantitative parameter calculation of the siliceous rocks in the Maokou Formation.The research findings provide technical supports for logging interpretation and evaluation and seismic prediction of reservoirs in the area.
