Abstract

In order to effectively address the high risk of differential pressure sticking caused by multiple pressure system formed by the reduction of formation pressure coefficient in the depleted zone of the Lower Cambrian Longwangmiao Formation gas reservoir,combined with the underlying and newly developed Upper Sinian Dengying Formation in the Gaoshiti-Moxi block,central Sichuan Basin,a research method integrating theoretical analysis,numerical calculation,and field practices was adopted to ensure safe and efficient drilling in long open-hole sections of deep wells.On the basis of the mechanism analysis on differential pressure sticking and quantitative calculation of main influencing factors,drilling technical measures were optimized,a risk identification system for differential pressure sticking was established,and prevention-control measures were formulated,resulting in a key technology for preventing pipe sticking of deep long open-hole sections in multi-pressure depleted zone.The following results are obtained.(i)Drilling tool size is a core factor impacting the adhesive force.Use of heavy-weight drill pipes instead of drill collars and the design of straight or hold angle sections in the depleted zone can effectively reduce the sticking risk.(ii)Drilling fluid performance is crucial.Compared with water-based drilling fluids,oil-based drilling fluids can reduce the adhesive force by more than 50%under the same conditions due to their thinner filter cake and lower friction coefficient,demonstrating a remarkable performance in preventing sticking.(iii)By incorporating the differential pressure sticking risk coefficient,the risk grading criterion is established,as well as the risk identification chart,achieving quick and quantitative identification of the sticking risk,thereby enabling a real-time warning.(iv)The technology has been successfully applied in four wells,with zero occurrence of drilling pipe sticking,verifying its effectiveness.It is concluded that the proposed technology can significantly reduce the differential pressure sticking risk in multi-pressure depleted zone.It provides a reliable support to safe and efficient drilling in the block,and serves as a reference for drilling operations in similar complex formations.
