话轮转换中的时间预期
Temporal prediction during turn-taking
摘要
Abstract
Turn-taking is the process during which interlocutors alternate speaking in conversation, requiring listeners to actively anticipate turn ends. While previous research has investigated what cue can be used for turn-end prediction, how these cues are used to make prediction remains unclear. This paper reviews the temporal prediction theory and cues available for predicting turn endings. We propose a temporal expectation model of turn-taking.A conversational turn is characterized by both formal and temporal structures.Lexico-syntactic information,as part of the formal structure, may guide attention toward turn endings via cortico-thalamic feedback loops that modulate neural oscillations.Prosodic cues provide the temporal structure;the brain extracts rhythmicity through entrainment mechanisms and aligns neural oscillations with these rhythms.Salient prosodic changes at the end of utterances are processed in an event-based manner and rapidly transmitted to the cortex via the cerebellum, enabling a"predictive mode".Finally, the paper discusses current limitations and suggests future directions:(1)investigating how different cues engage the dual pathways;(2)examining the impact of individual temporal expectation ability on turn-taking;and(3)exploring the relative weighting of lexico-syntactic and prosodic cues in predicting turn endings.关键词
