Abstract

Drought stress is one of the key abiotic adverse factors restricting maize(Zea mays L.)pro-duction.In order to explore the physiological functions and mechanisms of action of maize auxin response factor(ARF)in the process of responding to drought stress,maize variety Zheng8713 was used as the experimental materialBased on whole-genome analysis,the members of the ARF gene family in maize were identified and analyzed by bioinformatics,and the expression patterns of related genes under drought stress conditions were analyzed by RT-qPCR technology.The results indicated that a total of 28 ARF genes were identified in the maize genome.Physicochemical property analysis showed that the amino acid number of ARF protein was from 511 to 1 152,and the isoelectric point range was 5.70 to 8.08.All of them were hydrophilic and unstable proteins.The subcellular localiza-tion prediction results indicated that all 28 members of the ZmARF family were located within the nucleus.Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the ARF family members of maize could be classified into five subfamilies,and most of their genes had a high degree of homology with those of Sorghum bicol-or and Oryza sativa.Conserved domain analysis indicated that all ARF proteins contained the Auxin_resp and B3 conserved domains,and their promoter regions were rich in abolic acid response elements and methyl jasmonate response elements.Tissue-specific expression analysis indicated that all 28 ZmARF genes were expressed in the tested tissues,and the expression patterns of genes in the same subfamily were relatively similar.Analysis of expression characteristics under drought stress re-vealed that the expression levels of most ZmARFs significantly increased or decreased when exposed to drought stress.
