Comprehensive Evaluation and Screening of Drought Tolerance in 114 Spring Wheat Seedlings

Abstract
Wheat(Triticum aestivum L.)is an important food crop in China.Drought stress is an important factor leading to its reduced yield.Breeding drought-resistant varieties is an economically effective measure to deal with drought.To explore the drought tolerance at the seedling stage of spring wheat germplasms from different sources,114 spring wheat germplasms were used as materi-als.Drought stress was simulated by 20%PEG-6000.Indicators such as seedling length,root length,fresh weight and dry weight of aboveground parts and roots at the seedling stage were measured.Comprehensive evaluation was conducted by combining membership function method,cluster analy-sis,principal component analysis,etc.The results showed that the drought tolerance variations of spring wheat from different sources were rich,and the coefficient of variation of the measured indica-tors ranged from 6.7%to 52.9%.Principal component analysis reduced the 9 indicators to 4 key prin-cipal components,with a cumulative contribution rate of 79.717%.By combining membership func-tion analysis and weight assignment,the comprehensive evaluation value D was obtained.Cluster analysis classified 114 germplasms into 4 categories,namely drought-tolerant type(9),moderately drought-tolerant type(51),weakly drought-tolerant type(31),and drought-sensitive type(23).Stepwise regression analysis determined that relative seedling length,relative root length,relative dry weight of the aboveground part,relative fresh weight of the aboveground part,relative fresh weight of the root and moisture content of the aboveground part could be used as important indicators for drought tolerance assessment at the seedling stage.Analysis of the differences in drought resistance of materials from different sources revealed that the materials from Gansu had strong drought resist-ance,while those from Heilongjiang and Tianjin had relatively weak drought resistance.Finally,five high-drought-tolerant spring wheat germplasms at the seedling stage,namely Ningchun No.63,Kash-gar No.1,Xinchun No.29,Fan687 and D1503-2,were screened out.关键词
