Study on Application Patterns of Stimulation Parameters in EA and tDCS for Depression Based on Data Mining

Abstract
Objective:To explore the application patterns of stimulation parameters in electro-acupuncture(EA)and transcranial direct current stimulation(tDCS)for the treatment of depression using data mining techniques.Methods:Journal articles on EA and tDCS for the treatment of depression were retrieved from Chinese and English databases,including CNKI and PubMed,covering the period from January 1st 2015 to January 1 st 2025.After assessing the risk of bias,a literature database was established,and the extracted data were analyzed using descriptive analysis,association rule analysis,and cluster analysis.Results:A total of 138 studies were included,from which 139 datasets were extracted.The commonly used pulse waveforms for EA in treating depression were sparse-dense waves(67.19%)and continuous waves(31.25%).The frequently used EA stimulation frequencies were 2 Hz(20.75%)and 2/15 Hz(13.73%),whereas for auricular EA,the common frequencies were 15 Hz(38.46%)and 20 Hz(30.77%).EA stimulation intensity was usually based on patient tolerance(66.67%),while tDCS intensity was mostly 2 mA(73.33%).For single-session treatment duration,it was commonly 30 mins both for EA and tDCS.EA acupoints were mainly located on the Du meridian,with Baihui(DU20)and Yintang(EX-HN3)being the most frequently used,followed by extraordinary points,with Sishencong(EX-HN1)most applied.Auricular EA commonly targeted the Heart and Shenmen points.Association rules and cluster analyses showed close connections among DU20,EX-HN3,Neiguan(PC6),Shenmen(HT7),and Sanyinjiao(SP6).For tDCS,the stimulation electrodes were usually placed on the bilateral dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.Conclusion:The treatment of depression using EA,auricular EA,and tDCS requires selecting appropriate electrical stimulation parameters,with particular attention to stimulation frequency and the choice of acupoints(or stimulation sites).关键词
