Efficacy of Tongguan Liqiao Acupuncture Method in Treating Post-Stroke Dysphagia

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy of Tongguan Liqiao acupuncture in treating post-stroke dysphagia(PSD),and to explore its efficacy both as a standalone treatment and in combination with other interventions.Methods A comprehensive search of CNKI,Wanfang,VIP,SinoMed,PubMed,Web of Science,Cochrane,and Embase databases was conducted to identify randomized controlled trials(RCTs)involving Tongguan Liqiao acupuncture for PSD,up to August 3,2024.Meta-analysis and network meta-analysis were performed using RevMan 5.4 and Stata 16.0.Results A total of 47 studies(n=4 474)were included,of which 45 studies(n=4 136)were analyzed in a meta-analysis.showing that Tongguan Liqiao acupuncture significantly improved the effective rate,Water Swallow Test(WST)score,Standardized Swallowing Assessment(SSA),Swallowing Quality of Life(SWAL-QoL),and had a lower incidence of adverse events compared to control groups.Network meta-analysis,involving 41 studies(3 997 participants),included four intervention modalities:Tongguan Liqiao acupuncture(A),neuromuscular electrical stimulation(NMES)(B),swallowing function training(C),and conventional acupuncture(D),resulting in nine different intervention combinations.SUCRA rankings were as follows:Effective rate sequenced as A+B,A+B+C,A+C,A,B+C,B,D,C,placebo.WST score sequenced as A+B+C,A,A+C,B+C,C,D.SSA sequenced as A+B+C,A+C,B+C,C.Conclusions As a standalone therapy,Tongguan Liqiao acupuncture is more effective than NMES and swallowing function training.Among combination treatments,Tongguan Liqiao acupuncture combined with NMES or swallowing function training showed superior efficacy compared to NMES combined with swallowing function training.Moreover,Tongguan Liqiao acupuncture+NMES and Tongguan Liqiao acupuncture+NMES+swallowing function training both showed better outcomes than other combinations;however,further studies are required to clarify the relative efficacy of these two interventions.Due to the lack of blinding in the included studies,the quality of evidence is limited.Therefore,the conclusions of this study still need to be verified by more high-quality research in the future.关键词
