Characteristics of Ziwu Liuzhu(Midnight-noon Ebb-flow)in Sleep Monitoring of Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Abstract
Objective To analyze the correlation between sleep monitoring indicators of obstructive sleep apnea(OSA)and the time periods based on the Chinese medicine(CM)theory of Ziwu Liuzhu(midnight-noon ebb-flow).Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 136 patients with OSA who underwent sleep monitoring at Eye Hospital China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences between December 2019 and December 2022.All patients exhibited daytime and nighttime symptoms of OSA and met the diagnostic criteria for OSA.Basic information such as age and body mass index(BMI),as well as sleep monitoring indicators including apnea-hypopnea index(AHI)and lowest oxygen saturation(LSaO2)were collected and analyzed.Patients were grouped according to the time of occurrence of LSaO2,AHI,LSaO2,mean SaO2,and percentageof time of SaO2 below 90％(ct90)values were compared among groups.These variables were stratified and analyzed using RXC contingency tables and regression analysis to examine the correlation between time periods and each variable.Results The severity of AHI was correlated with the time period(P=0.024).Compared to the periods of Hai(21:00-23:00),Yin(03:00-05:00),Mao(05:00-07:00),and Chen(07:00-09:00),an increase in AHI grade was associated with a higher risk of LSaO2 occurring during Zi(23:00-01:00)and Chou(01:00-03:00)(OR 2.67,95％CI:1.22-5.77).Compared to males,females had a lower risk of LSaO2 occurring during Zi and Chou(OR 0.24,95％CI:0.07-0.76).LSaO2 occurred predominantly during Zi and Chou.Among these patients,AHI was mainly moderate(15-30 events/h),hypoxemia was mostly moderate(80％-85％),the majority were aged 50-59 years,and BMI was primarily in the overweight range(25-30 kg/m2).Conclusions The Zi(Dan)and Chou(Gan)are associated with the AHI and LSaO2 in OSA cases.This study offered a reference of visceral theory in OSA treatment.关键词
