Abstract

In this study,a graphene-enhanced activated carbon cathode slurry system was developed using the eco-friendly solvent γ-valerolactone(GVL).The evolution of electrode microstructure and its impact on electrochemical performance were systematically examined through rheological analysis,scanning electron microscopy,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy,and cyclic voltammetry.The results reveal that GVL offers suitable viscosity and solvation characteristics,ensuring homogeneous dispersion and coating stability of the slurry.Furthermore,the three-dimensional conductive network established by graphene markedly decreases charge-transfer resistance,thereby improving the electrode's rate capability and reaction kinetics.At a current density of 0.1 A/g,the electrode delivered a specific discharge capacity of 77.2 mAh/g—representing a 38%enhancement over commercial activated carbon electrodes(64.7 mAh/g)—and maintained 100%capacity retention after 400 charge-discharge cycles.When coupled with a hard carbon anode in a coin-type lithium-ion capacitor,the assembled device achieved an energy density of 172 Wh/kg and a power density of 6 kW/kg,based on active material mass.This work provides both theoretical insight and experimental validation for the sustainable fabrication of high-performance energy storage electrodes,underscoring their potential in advanced electrochemical systems such as supercapacitors and lithium-ion capacitors.
