Abstract

The in-wheel motor(IWM)bearing is a core component of in-wheel drive electric vehicle.As a key to load carrying and motion transmisson,it plays a crucial role in system performance.Investigating the mechanical stress of motor bearings under random road excitation is of great significance for enhancing the reliability of in-wheel drive systems.This paper takes the in-wheel motor bearing as the primary research object.First,a 16-degree-of-freedom(16-DOF)vehicle dynamics model of an IWM drive electric vehicle is developed to determine the vibration loads transmitted to the bearing under random road roughness excitation.Then,a transient stress analysis model of the IWM bearing is built.Using this model,transient stress distribution characteristics and time-varying characteristics of the IWM bearing are analyzed in combination with loads,including random road excitation,centrifugal force and gravitational force.The results indicate,regardless of road excitation,the maximum equivalent stress of the bearing occurs on the rolling elements.Compared with the case without road excitation,when operating on a C-class road surface,the maximum equivalent stress of the inner ring,rolling elements,and outer ring increases by 15.86%,22.29%,and 26.03%respectively,due to the random road roughness excitation.When the IMW-driven vehicle operates at the same speed,the higher road surface grade results in greater equivalent stress across all bearing components.The road surface grade exerts a more significant influence on the equivalent stress of outer ring and rolling elements while its effect on the inner ring is relatively minor.
