Rodent community composition and factors influencing distribution in the desert grassland of Hexi Corridor

Abstract
Desert rodent communities play a crucial role in maintaining ecosystem structure and function in desert grasslands.This study focuses on understanding the composition of rodentcommunities in temperate desert grasslands and their environmental response mechanisms,providing insights for biodiversity conservation and rodent pest man-agement.45 rodent distribution sites were surveyed across the temperate desert grasslands of Hexi Corridor,where data on rodent and plant communities,climate,soil substrates,and human interference were collected.Constrained or-dination and hierarchical partitioning analyzes were used to assess the impact of environmental variableson the distri-bution of desert rodent communities.A total of10 species of rodents belonging to4 families and 8 genera were re-corded,with the Siberian jerboa,Northern three-toed jerboa,Mid-day gerbil,and Great gerbil identified as the dominant species.The distribution of Siberian jerboa was significantly correlated with temperature and elevation,while the Northern three-toed jerboa showed a positive correlation with plant evenness and a negative correlation with mean annual temperature(P<0.05).The Mid-day gerbil was positively correlated with plant species richness and NDVI(P<0.05),and the Great gerbilwas stronglyassociatedwith vegetation type and plant species richness.Overall,vegetation type,altitude,plant species eveness,temperature,slope,and annual precipitationsignificantly influ-enced the distribution of the desert rodent community,with vegetation type being the most influential factor.关键词
