Abstract

The technology of co-firing biomass with coal-fired boilers,as an effective means to reduce carbon emissions from coal-fired power units and promote the utilization of renewable energy has received widespread attention in recent years.This paper reviews the research status,technical advantages and disadvantages,challenges faced by high-coal blending,and future development trends of co-firing biomass with coal-fired boilers.Directly co-firing and gasification co-firing are the main technical routes at present,when the proportion of biomass co-firing is within 10%,the pulverizing system,combustion system,and environmental protection system can operate safely and stably.When the proportion of biomass co-firing exceeds 10%,issues such as blockage in the pulverizing system,coking and corrosion of boiler heat surfaces,reduced performance of SCR denitrification catalysts,decreased boiler efficiency,and blockage in the gasification system become significant.It is necessary to strengthen research on key technologies including safe,efficient,and economical gasification systems;safety technology for boiler heat surfaces;safety technology for environmental protection systems;and parallel coupling of biomass boilers with coal-fired boilers.Efforts should be intensified to research and demonstrate the integrated path of low-carbon unit technology,including coal-fired power plant upgrades,biomass co-firing,green ammonia/hydrogen co-firing,and carbon capture utilization and storage.Actively explore new market operation models,strengthen the overall planning of biomass co-firing projects in regional coal-fired power plants,and establish a new model for biomass resource utilization cooperation featuring"coal-fired power plant co-firing+independent collection,processing,storage,and transportation system".
