摘要

Abstract

Internal ribosome entry site(IRES)is a cis-regulatory element that can initiate translation in cap-independent manner.It was first discovered in viral RNA sequences,and then cellular mRNAs were found to contain IRESs.Recently,IRES elements have also been reported in circRNAs and mediate their translation.Cap-independent translation mediated by IRES plays important roles in many cellular processes and is involved in many human diseases,receiving more and more attentions.Since identifying IRES elements by experimental method is time-consuming and laborious,faster and more convenient computational methods have been developed based on experimentally validated data.In this paper,we briefly introduce IRES elements,summarize existing IRES predicting methods,and compare their prediction performance on an independent testing dataset.
