Abstract

To clarify the effects of different ammonium-to-nitrate ratios on the synthesis and metabo-lism of glucosinolates in mini Chinese cabbage,and to provide guidance for nitrogen fertilization man-agement to cultivate mini Chinese cabbage with high glucosinolate content,a hydroponic experiment was conducted.Five ammonium-to-nitrate ratios(0∶10,3∶7,5∶5,7∶3 and 10∶0),with a total ni-trogen concentration of 5 mmol/L,were tested.The total amino acid content was highest at the am-monium-to-nitrate ratio of 7∶3.The content of precursor amino acids for glucosinolate synthesis also increased with the higher ammonium nitrogen concentration,thereby promoting glucosinolate synthe-sis.Compared with the total nitrate treatment,the total ammonium treatment(10∶0)upregulated the relative expression levels of BrCYP83A1 and BrCYP83B1 genes,thereby enhancing glucosinolate synthesis.In contrast,compared with the total ammonium treatment,the relative expression of BrESM gene was downregulated in the 7∶3 ammonium-to-nitrate treatment,reducing glucosinolate degradation and increasing glucosinolate accumulation.Thus,increasing ammonium nitrogen content in the nutrient solution can promote glucosinolates synthesis,reduce its degradation,and enhance its accumulation in mini Chinese cabbage.
