Observation on the effects of needle-embedding therapy combined with Western medication on sleep quality,emotional state,and prognosis in patients with depression accompanied by insomnia

Abstract
Objective:To observe the effects of needle-embedding therapy combined with Western medication on sleep quality,emotional state,and prognosis in patients with depression accompanied by insomnia. Methods:A total of 50 patients with depression and insomnia treated between April 2019 and April 2020 were assigned to a medication group,and another 50 patients treated between May 2020 and May 2021 were assigned to a combination group.Both groups were treated with oral venlafaxine,while the combination group additionally received needle-embedding therapy.Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)symptom scores(excessive thinking and worrying,fatigue and weakness,and sleeplessness with irritability),sleep quality[Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI)],and emotional state[17-item Hamilton depression scale(HAMD-17)]were compared between the two groups before treatment and after 2 weeks of treatment.Adverse reactions during treatment were recorded.Clinical efficacy was compared after treatment,and insomnia recurrence and readmission rates were observed 3 months after treatment. Results:After 2 weeks of treatment,TCM symptom scores,PSQI,and HAMD-17 scores in both groups were significantly lower than those before treatment(P<0.05),and all scores in the combination group were significantly lower than those in the medication group(P<0.05).The total effective rate in the combination group was significantly higher than that in the medication group(P<0.05).No significant adverse reactions occurred in either group during treatment.Within 3 months after treatment,the recurrence rate of insomnia and the readmission rate were significantly lower in the combination group than in the medication group(P<0.05). Conclusion:Needle-embedding therapy combined with oral venlafaxine is superior to venlafaxine alone in alleviating clinical symptoms and improving emotional states in patients with depression accompanied by insomnia,showing better short-term and long-term efficacy.关键词
