Effects of Salt Stress on Physiological and Biochemical Characteristics of Maize Seedlings with Different Genetic Backgrounds

Abstract
[Objective]To reveal the effects of NaCl stress on the physiological and biochemical characteristics of maize seedlings with different genetic backgrounds and their adaptation mechanisms.[Method]Two self cultivated maize varieties,"Zhaohuang 20"and"Zhaohuang 30",were selected as the research objects.Hydroponic cultivation was used to investigate the effects of different concentrations of NaCl(0 mmol/L(CK),25,50,75,100 mmol/L)and time treatment on various physiological and biochemical indicators and agronomic traits of maize seed-lings.[Result]Different concentrations and durations of salt stress have varying effects on the physiological and biochemical indicators as well as agronomic traits of maize seedlings of different varieties.Salt stress can significantly inhibit the growth and development of maize seedlings,and with increasing stress time and concentration,the growth rate,root length,aboveground biomass,chlorophyll content,and leaf water con-tent of seedlings show a slowing or decreasing trend.Salt stress can also lead to an increase in malondialdehyde content and soluble protein content,as well as an increase in intracellular oxidative stress.[Conclusion]Both varieties have certain salt tolerance,but the new variety"Zhaohuang 30"with rich genetic background has stronger seedling stress tolerance compared to the relatively single genetic background"Zha-ohuang 20".关键词
