Broadband Low-Profile Circularly Polarized Antenna Based on Metasurface

Abstract
A broadband low-profile circularly polarized slot antenna based on a metasurface is proposed for C-band satellite communication.The antenna integrates a polarization-converting metasurface,composed of 16"Z"-shaped units arranged in a 4×4 periodic array,with a slot antenna.By loading the metasurface onto the slot antenna,linearly polarized waves generated by the slot antenna are converted into circularly polarized waves,enabling efficient polarization conversion.To validate the design,a prototype with dimensions of 0.59λ0×0.59λ0×0.076λ0(where λ0 denotes the free-space wavelength at 5.2 GHz)was fabricated and experimentally characterized.Measurement results demonstrate a-10 dB impedance bandwidth of 45.8%(3.99~6.36 GHz),a 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth of 24.7%(4.93~6.32 GHz),and a peak gain of 6.05 dBi.The experimental results exhibit excellent agreement with simulations,confirming the effectiveness of the proposed antenna design for broadband and low-profile applications in satellite communication systems.关键词
