Abstract

Elucidating the effects of nitrogen(N)fertilizer reduction on sugarcane yield,nitrogen use efficiency,nitrogen,phosphorus(P),and potassium(K)content,sugar content,and soil respiration could provide a theoretical basis for optimizing nitrogen fertilizer management in sugarcane fields in Guangxi.A field experiment was conducted in a typical sugarcane-growing region of Guangxi to evaluate four N application rates:a conventional rate of 500 kg/hm2(N500),and reduced rate of 20%(N400),40%(N300),and a zero-N control(N0).Over three consecutive growing seasons(2019~2021),the observation results showed that N reduction up to 40%did not significantly affect sugarcane yield,stalk N,P,K content,sugar content,or soil respiration rate.However,it significantly increased the partial factor productivity of applied N(PFPN).Compared with conventional N application rate(500 kg/hm2),the PFPN increased by 105.40 kg/kg under N300.These findings demonstrate that optimizing N application rate can significantly enhance nitrogen use efficiency without compromising sugarcane yield,offering a strategy for sustainable sugarcane production with lower environmental risks.
