Wood Densities and Fiber Characteristics at Early Growth Stages of Six Broad-leaved Tree Species in Guangxi

摘要

Abstract

In order to provide reference for broad-leaved tree species selection in southeastern Guangxi,taking 7-year-old to 9-year-old Castanopsis hystrix,Machilus pauhoi,Michelia macclurei,Mytilaria laosensis,Man-glietia glauca and Paulownia fortunei as research materials,growths,wood densities and fiber characteristics at early stages were analyzed.Results showed that average annual growths of tree height,average annual growths of DBH,wood basic densities,fiber lengths,ratios of fiber length to diameter,fiber single-wall thicknesses and ratios of fiber wall thickness to cavity of six tree species were 0.87-1.59 m,1.47-1.83 cm,0.256-0.478 g/cm³,1.09-2.09 mm,30.9-54.1,5.24-9.28µm and 0.53-1.07 respectively.There were significant differences in all indexes among tree species.Wood basic density showed significantly positive correlation with ratio of fiber length to diameter.TOPSIS method was used to comprehensively evaluate six tree species.Scores of M.pauhoi and M.laosensis were higher.M.pauhoi and M.laosensis grew faster and showed better wood characteristics among six tree species,which could be important supplements for existing tree species system of industrial tim-ber forests in Guangxi.
