Abstract

The evolution of river-lake interactions between Chaohu Lake and the Yangtze River and their hydrological regimes significantly impact watershed ecological security.To address the transformation of Chaohu Lake from a naturally connected river-lake system to a semi-closed regulated water body due to sluice construction,this study developed a MIKE11 hydrodynamic model to investigate the ecological effects of sluice operations on lake hydrology.The results demonstrated that sluice operations reduced the annual water exchange volume to merely 6.8%(120 million m3/a)of pre-sluice conditions,shifting natural water exchange to engineered regulation with dramatically decreased exchange frequency and volume.While pre-sluice water levels fluctuated synchronously with the Yangtze(maximum variation of 8.56 m),post-sluice levels became rigidly regulated(8.50~10.10 m)with significantly reduced variability.These findings provided critical references for optimizing river-lake interactions and ecological water level regulation in Chaohu Lake's comprehensive management.
