《三国志》裴注"生口"之"牲口"义再议
Rethinking the Interpretation of"Shengkou"(生口)as"Livestock"in Pei Songzhi's Annotations to Records of the Three Kingdoms
摘要
Abstract
In Annotations to Biography of Wang Chang in the Book of Wei of Records of the Three Kingdoms by Chen Shou of the Jin Dynasty and Pei Songzhi of the Liu Song Dynasty in the Southern Dynasties, the term"shengkou"(生口)has traditionally been interpreted as"livestock".However, modern scholars often contend that it refers to"captives"or"slaves".While this interpretation brings a fresh perspective,it significantly contradicts the image of Ren Gu as an ancient moral exemplar.More crucially, there is still no conclusive evidence to overturn the traditional interpretation of"shengkou"(生口)as"livestock".It is noteworthy that the interchangeable usage of"sheng"(生)and"sheng"(牲)has existed since the pre-Qin period, and the interpretation of"shengkou"(生口)as"livestock"before the Yuan and Ming dynasties was not an isolated case. Therefore,we should respect the ancient interpretations and avoid making hasty assertions.关键词
