Fatigue Durability Assessment of Orthotropic Steel Decks Based on Normalized Traffic Flow Data from the Chongqi Bridge

Abstract
The objective of this study is to assess the fatigue durability of the fatigue-prone regions of the steel box girders of the Chongqi Bridge main bridge,and to this end,actual traffic flow parameter analysis and finite element simulation were carried out.Firstly,a 37-month traffic flow statistical analysis of the main bridge of the Chongqi Bridge was carried out by using a dynamic weighing system(WIM)to count the vehicle weight,axle distance,axle weight and other characteristic parameters of each vehicle,and the equivalent fatigue vehicle load spectrum applicable to the Chongqi Bridge was established based on the normalization of the above traffic flow data.Secondly,the top plate-U-rib weld,which is more prone to be fatigue-damaged,was chosen to be the fatigue-sensitive area of orthotropic steel decks,and the equivalent fatigue vehicle load spectrum was applied to a more detailed local model of the steel decks to calculate the fatigue stress amplitude and fatigue life of the weld.The results show that the equivalent constant stress amplitude at the inner and outer sides of the top plate-U-rib weld of the Chongqi Bridge exceeds the allowable stress amplitude for fatigue calculation,and the fatigue life of the corresponding area also indicates that there is a certain fatigue risk.The above results lay a preliminary research foundation for the subsequent fatigue stress monitoring of the real steel box girder bridge of the Chongqi Bridge as well as the specific fatigue damage assessment of each fatigue-sensitive zone detail,and can provide an empirical reference for the fatigue durability assessment of other bridges using orthotropic steel decks.关键词
