Abstract
Objective To explore the mediating effect of empathy in hospice care between communication comfort and nursing quality among nurses in cancer hospitals,and to provide reference for developing effective nursing measures to improve the quality of hospice care.Methods Using convenience sampling,486 nurses from Harbin Medical University Cancer Hospital were selected from March to May 2024.A survey was conducted using General Information Questionnaire,Quality Scale for Hospice Care,Comfort Measurement Scale for Hospice Care Communication,and Nurse's Empathy Ability Scale for Hospice Care.A structural equation model was constructed to examine the mediating effect of empathy in hospice care between communication comfort and nursing quality in cancer hospitals.Results All the nurses completed the survey.The total score of the quality of hospice care,empathy in hospice care,and communication comfort was 70.08±11.13,104.95±18.81,and 74.83±13.92 respectively,all of which were at a moderate level.The quality of hospice care was significantly positively correlated with empathy and communication comfort(r=0.523,0.550,P<0.01).Communication comfort and empathy in hospice care could positively affect hospice care quality;empathy played a partially mediating role between communication comfort and nursing quality,with a mediating effect of 0.224,accounting for 38.10%of the total effect.Conclusion Empathy of nurses in cancer hospitals serves as a mediating variable between communication comfort and nursing quality.Nursing managers should prioritize the development of nurses'empathy,communication skills and communication comfort,and thereby enhance the quality of hospice care.关键词
