Abstract
Objective:To analyze the epidemiological characteristics and long-term trends of hospitalized cases of acute pesticide poisoning in Shantou,and to provide a basis for developing precise prevention and control strategies.Methods:A retrospective collection of data from 619 hospitalized cases of acute pesticide poisoning admitted to Shantou Central Hospital between January 2015 and December 2024 was conducted.Descriptive epidemiological methods were used to analyze the distribution of causes,time,population,region,and types of poisonous substances.Dynamic series,Poisson regression,and Joinpoint regression models were applied to analyze long-term trends.Results:Among the 619 patients,55.3%(342/619)were male,and the≥55 years age group had the highest proportion(34.4%,213/619).The primary cause of poisoning was non-occupational self-ingestion(74.3%,460/619).In terms of temporal distribution,the third quarter(30.9%)was the high-incidence period.Geographically,cases were highly concentrated in Chaoyang District(63.6%).Insecticides were the most common type of toxicant(53.8%),but herbicides had the highest case fatality rate(16.1%).Trend analysis showed an average annual development speed of 102.1%for the total number of poisoning cases.Both the linear trend χ2 test and Poisson regression(unadjusted incidence rate ratio=1.019,95%CI:1.002-1.032,P=0.032)indicated an overall upward trend in the number of poisoning cases.Joinpoint regression further identified 2022 as a turning point for phased changes,with a declining trend before this point(annual percent change=-4.8%,P=0.005)and a rebound thereafter(annual percent change=10.4%,P=0.041).Conclusion:From 2015 to 2024,acute pesticide poisoning in Shantou showed a fluctuating but overall upward trend,with a notable recent rebound.Its epidemiological characteristics are primarily defined by non-occupational self-ingestion,a high concentration among elderly rural males,during the third quarter,and in Chaoyang District,with herbicides being the leading cause of death.关键词
