A comparative study on Nelumbinis Folium and Nelumbinis Receptaculum:sand stir-frying charcoal preferred over enclosed calcining process

Abstract
Objective To investigate the modification of the charcoal processing method for Chinese medicinals(CMs)from the enclosed calcining process(ECP)to sand stir-frying(SSF).Methods Samples of Nelumbinis Folium(NF)and Nelumbinis Receptacu-lum(NR)were processed using three different charcoal methods:the ECP,SSF,and stir-frying without additives(SFA).The charcoal yield,as well as the contents of nuciferine,quercetin,and tannin,were compared.Results Comparison of the three charcoal processing methods revealed that for both NF and NR:Charcoal yield:SSF>SFA>ECP.Nuciferine disappeared in all three types of charcoal-processed NF.Quercetin content:SSF>SFA>ECP(in both NF and NR).Tannins content:For NF,ECP resulted in the lowest con-tent.For NR,SSF and SFA led to increased content,while ECP resulted in decreased content.Conclusion Among the three methods,SSF resulted in the shortest processing time,highest charcoal yield,and optimal uniformity of charcoal with retained properties.The SSF method is viable for preparing NF and NR.关键词
