Effects of Typical Farmland Conversion Modes on Soil Hydraulic Properties in Three Gorges Reservoir Area

Abstract
[Objective]To investigate the effects of different farmland conversion modes on soil hydraulic properties in the Three Gorges Reservoir area,thereby providing scientific guidance for the forest and grassland ecological projects in this area.[Methods]With farmland as the control,typical farmland conversion modes(farmland-to-grassland conversion,farmland-to-forest conversion,farmland-to-orchard conversion)in the Three Gorges Reservoir area were selected as the research objects.The basic physicochemical properties of soil,pore distribution characteristics,and hydraulic parameters were measured at 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm depths.Differences in soil hydraulic properties and their influencing factors under different farmland conversion modes were analyzed.[Results]1)All farmland conversion modes significantly reduced the soil bulk density,with values ranking as follows:farmland(1.52 g/cm3)>farmland-to-orchard conversion(1.48 g/cm3)>farmland-to-grassland conversion(1.41 g/cm3)>farmland-to-forest conversion(1.35 g/cm3).Only farmland-to-forest conversion significantly increased the soil organic matter content,showing a 65.22%increase compared to that of farmland.2)Different farmland conversion modes mainly increased soil mesoporosity and macroporosity.Compared to farmland,farmland-to-grassland conversion,farmland-to-forest conversion,farmland-to-orchard conversion increased soil mesoporosity by 76.61%,59.38%,and 14.91%,and macroporosity by 23.98%,43.23%,and 15.66%,respectively.3)Different farmland conversion modes effectively enhanced soil hydraulic conductivity,among which farmland-to-forest conversion and farmland-to-orchard conversion could also effectively improve the water holding capacity in the 0-40 cm soil,while farmland-to-grassland conversion was not conducive to the water holding capacity in the 0-20 cm soil.4)Under the typical farmland conversion modes in Three Gorges Reservoir area,soil porosity,bulk density,organic matter content,and silt content were the main factors driving the variations of soil hydraulic properties.[Conclusion]In the Three Gorges Reservoir area,the farmland-to-orchard conversion can be promoted according to local conditions to realize a win-win situation of ecological and economic benefits.关键词
