Abstract

PV power generation,as an important form of solar energy utilization,has developed rapidly in recent years.However,PV modules are prone to heat or structural failures such as hot spots and hidden cracks during long-term operation,which not only reduces their power generation performance but may also affect the operational safety of the PV power stations.This paper proposes a PV module fault diagnosis and health assessment method based on image processing technology to address the above issues.Firstly,the formation mechanism of hot spots and hidden cracks are analyzed,and then the detection methods of hot spots and hidden cracks are studied,and the health status of PV modules is evaluated.Finally,the two detection methods are validated through examples.The research results show that:in response to the hot spots problem,a PV module hot spot detection method based on k-means clustering algorithm and the maximum mean feature of red-green-blue(RGB)has achieved automatic recognition of abnormal temperature areas in PV modules thermal imaging images.And through temperature difference,the classification of hot spots is achieved.Regarding the issue of hidden cracks,based on the EL detection method,a quantitative discrimination of hidden crack defects in PV modules is achieved.And through the analysis of gray-scale histogram similarity,the classification of hidden cracks is realized.The method proposed in this paper effectively integrates thermal imaging and EL imaging technologies,forming a complementary fault detection system for PV modules,providing valuable technical support for the operation and maintenance of PV power stations,equipment health assessment,and fault warning.
