大秦寺塔底层外墙砖表面风化特征及风化程度评估
Weathering characteristics and degree assessment of the exterior brick surface at the base of the Daqin Temple Pagoda

Abstract
The outer wall at the base of the Daqin Temple Pagoda was restored using masonry-built during 1998-1999.Despite only 26 years having passed since then,surface weathering is quite evident.Investigations have revealed four types of surface weathering deterioration on the bricks of the pagoda's base outer wall,including surface dissolution,crumbling and efflorescence,flaking exfoliation,and surface mortar loss.XRD analysis detected the presence of anhydrous sodium sulfate and gypsum in all weathered brick samples.MIP tests show that the weathered brick samples develop smaller-diameter pores,while the diameter of larger pores also increase.A comprehensive assessment of the weathering degree using missing volume,surface hardness,and elastic wave velocity prove more scientific and thorough,indicating that the southern and western walls have suffered relatively severe weathering.Water,temperature,and salt are identified as the three major factors influencing the weathering of the outer wall at the base of the Daqin Temple Pagoda.Research on the surface weathering of these bricks provides data support for scientifically formulating a conservation plan for the Daqin Temple Pagoda.关键词
