Abstract

To address the issues of low heat transfer efficiency,high material consumption,and heavy equipment weight in marine shell-and-tube heat exchangers,a lightweight design of pure counterflow heat exchangers based on twisted elliptical tubes was proposed.Taking a C8200 marine diesel freshwater cooler from an enterprise as the research object,the baffle structure was eliminated and twisted elliptical tube bundles were adopted to achieve simultaneous enhancement of heat transfer for both tube-side and shell-side fluids.The results show that under the design conditions(both tube-side and shell-side flow rates at 30 m3/h),the new heat exchanger meets design requirements:the overall heat transfer coefficient reaches 3 360 W/(m2·K),a 43.3%increase compared to the traditional baffle structure of 2 344 W/(m2·K);the shell-side heat transfer coefficient increases by 19.2%to 9 162 W/(m2·K),while the shell-side pressure drop remains comparable(18.8 and 19.4 kPa,respectively),and the overall comprehensive evaluation factor η improves by 25.1%.Structural optimization reduces the heat transfer area by 35.2%,the total tube bundle mass by 23.5%,and material cost by 34.6%.This design,through the synergistic effect of pure counterflow mode and high-efficiency heat transfer elements,improves heat transfer efficiency and meets lightweight requirements,providing an effective solution for energy efficiency upgrades in marine power systems.
